Ingrid Erickson

Assistant Professor, School of Communication and Information, RutgersUniversity

Ingrid Erickson is an assistant professor at SC&I. Originally from Michigan, Erickson left a career in academic publishing to earn her PhD in management science and engineering from Stanford University. In the ITI program, which takes a critical constructive approach to issues related to technology and society, her students examine social media, big data, politics, ubiquitous computing and the quantified self-movement from the perspective of their own experience. Erickson asks her students to reflexively examine why and how they engage in the practices they do, and challenges them to put their thoughts into action in a final group project modeled as a mock Kickstarter campaign. Drawing on her expertise in management science, Erickson currently teaches the knowledge management course in the MLIS program, and is developing a project management course for the ITI program. In the future, Erickson is excited to leverage the intellectual diversity of SC&I to build collaboration with colleagues across its three departments, while at the same time strengthening its identity as an iSchool.
