Monika Krause studied sociology at the universities of Munich and Cambridge and at the LSE and holds a Ph.D. from NYU. In her research, she examines meaningful practices in a variety of settings, by what mediations they are linked to other practices, and how they do or do not add up to meaningful wholes. She has previously worked on playwrights and journalists. She is currently working on a book manuscript on the field of humanitarian relief NGOs, provisionally entitled "Organized Needs:Humanitarian NGOs and the Global Market in Projects". She is also a co-editor of "The University Against Itself: The NYU Strike and the Future of the Academic Workplace" (Temple University Press 2008).
